The arts community imploded a bit this week in the wake of the Pikes Peak Arts Council Awards on Sunday night at the Fine Arts Center. They didn't like host Craig Richardson (he of the velvet baritone and the ironic sensibilities) from Colorado Culture Cast.

A racy sculpture project, oh yeah
A group of Talawanda High School sculpture students are taking their art to the streets. The students are creating a racer to compete Oct. 4 in the Red Bull Soapbox Race on Mount Adams in Cincinnati. They used a bicycle framework topped to look like a 6-foot long, 7-foot-tall Kool-Aid pitcher.

Tibetan monks are making a sand mandala in Reilly Gallery. My friend stood next to the monks, taking a well-framed picture of the construction. The camera snap was covered by the rhythmic rustle of metal. I wasn't sure what I was actually seeing. I am sure that I can't explain to you precisely what a mandala is.
