Juan Luna's Las Damas Romanas, a painting presumed lost for a century, was purchased by a private buyer for $606,300, well below the estimated $1,036,925 -- $1,296,156 set by Christie's during the Southeast Asian Modern and Contemporary Art auction held in Hong Kong last Sunday. Despite missing its target, the Luna painting sits atop of the auction house's Top Ten list (see table).
