Bacon painting sets postwar auction record
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Francis Bacon's "Triptych, 1976" sold for $86 million (44 million pounds) at Sotheby's contemporary sale on Wednesday, setting a record for postwar art and contributing to the auction house's best result in its nearly 300-year history.

Richard 'Duke' Hagerty
The Corrigan Gallery is currently presenting 'Celebration,' a show of works by Richard 'Duke' Hagerty opening today with a reception 5-8 p.m. at 62 Queen St. His work will hang through June 15. This special show is also the Piccolo Spoleto Invitational show observing Hagerty's status as the commissioned official poster artist for the 30th Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

Good Morning Lowcountry
The first two visual arts exhibits for this year's Piccolo Spoleto festival, the 30th, open today. Corrigan Gallery at 62 Queen St. has hung this year's Piccolo Spoleto Invitational Show, featuring the work of Richard Hagerty, this year's festival poster artist. The original painting for the poster will be there, along with more of Hagerty's colorful fantasies.

City seeks artists for public project
The city of Southlake is calling all artists. “Quality of life, we believe as many do, is more than just having roads and police, it’s also having good parks, places to go and see,” said Kerry McGeath, deputy director of city services and city librarian. “Public art is a big part of that.”
